In this video, we take a look at a groundbreaking achievement in the world of electric vehicle technology. Our Next Energy (ONE), a US-based startup with backing from BMW and Bill Gates, has tested a new battery that offers an incredible 1210 kilometres of driving range on a single charge. This exceeds Tesla’s own claim of 652km for the Model S. The company fitted a prototype battery to a Tesla Model S and traveled over 1200km before needing to recharge. ONE’s achievement is a major step forward in the quest to eliminate range anxiety, which is holding back the widespread adoption of electric vehicles. The new battery pack, called GeminiTM, aims to double the available energy on board in the same package space while improving cost and safety using sustainable materials. The company’s CEO, Mujeeb Ijaz, a former Apple executive with three decades of industry experience, is focused on evolving the proof-of-concept battery into a market-ready product. The company has also stated its goal of eventually eliminating nickel and cobalt from its batteries without compromising driving range. The ONE Gemini battery has been validated by a third party in a lab environment, achieving a theoretical maximum driving range of 1419 kilometres when the vehicle was run on a dynamometer at a constant speed of 89km/h.
